Not so many years ago. some au- thorities advocated s "courtesy no- trump" response to partner's opgn. in: bid on as little as one king, even without a. five-card or long- er suit.

This was because when he had closed the door by plugging the entrance passage with earth it had been below the level of the ground. So now for s. few minutes he tested the fresh air with his sharp nose for the hated Man smell. There was none. not the tiniest bit. And he listened with his ears open their widest to catch the faintest sound that might mean his enemy was waiting for him to come out. He heard
