Alcohol as Medicine.

INTERESTING

At the recent meeting of the Medical Society of New Brunswick Dr. T. W. Musgrove read a paper on “The proper use of aleohol as a medicine, apd the responsibility of physicians in prescrib- ing it,’ He pointed out the effects of intemperance, which, he asserted, were largely the result of improper adminis- tration of liquor by physicians. He thought the time had come when a proper system of administering the drugshould be devised. Liquor, he thought, should not be preseribed to persons in health, nor for chronic dis- eases or for fevers. Alcohol, he believ- ed, should be taken as Opium or any other drug. Moderate drinking, he declared, was both unscientific and criminal. He produced statistics to show the evil effects of the drug upon the human system.
