univerSitl‘es, he stated that, “it, (the liaison process) is an import- ant step on the part of the faculty and students to make‘U.P.E.I. the Island University." In his speech

concerning the possibility of a liaison program on November 8, Cobb wished to heighten the

awareness among faculty and freshmen students about the issue. He said that fres men students

generally are not prepared for university. Cobb went on to ex- plain that, '“recruitment and pre- paration are important and are

key factors in the liaison process ‘

— getting students here and

getting them prepared.”

Cobb’s short-term plans are to have the faculty of UPEI think about the proposal placed before

them and eventually bring the idea toithe Senate of UPEI. “BMW and students should be going to the high schools across the Island and informing students about the University -— maybe have the

professors giving sample lectures.” Cobb would like to see all high schools active in the proposal program.

When asked who helped in compiling the facts used in his speech, Cobb replied, “the facts

come from my own personal-

experiences as a freshman and from similar experiences of other students who felt that they were not properly prepared for such a step as University. ” He went on to stress that the key to such a pro- cess was that “high school educa- tion isn’t bad. but do students really 'know what university is?” ' Cobb wants to “clear up all the misconceptions about University and give students a starting change", when entering such an institution.
