On |his first election he cajoled Mr. Richard Reddin into ranning along with him. | Mr. Reddin’s friends supported Mr. Beer, ‘and placed him at the head of the poll ; ,but poor Reddin was left ont of sight by , the Beer party.

The next dupe was Mr. John Maullins. Mr. Beer got in twice with the assistance ‘of Mr. Mullins; but that gentleman was : betrayed.

In the late contest a yonng maa who had | for four sessions supported the Conserva- , tive party was induced to run in conjune- tion with Mr. Beer. Mr. McDonald was i promised that in return for the support

A very interesting judgment has jnat been rendered at Montréal in the case of Lighthall vs. Chretien, being an action to recover possession of a property which had been paid for in Silver Plume Mining stock, represented as worth 724. A grocer in St. Catherines has hit upon a novel plan by which to collect bad debts. So soon asa customer becomes dilatory in payment of grocery bills, and shows indis- position to settle, the grocer sends round a boy with a big bell. The boy stops in front of the delinqnent’s residence and rings the belli vigorously.
