The school committee ICDOWEG A new Santa Claus suit had been bought and prices for new black- boards were discussed. but it was decided to consult Mr. Jelly be- fore buying. The committee was asked to buy jackem for school MOVES.

The treasurers report showed a balance of 599.04 after bills had been ppm. The sick committee re- ported 25 Christmas Cards. five boxes and two sick treats had been sent. New-babies in the district had been remembered with a suitable gift. and flowers order- ed for the late Mrs. Bearisto.

Mrs. F. Bearisto told the meet- ing of the coming amateur contest to be held in Sea View, to which members were asked to send sev- eral contestants. Miss 0. Howard was asked to see about numbers for the contest.

It was planned to hold another card party in the W. 1. room, details of which were left in charge of Lower Group number 2.

Two beautiful illustrated books ”Our Queen" and "Duke of Edin- burgh" were received from the adopted Bwinden Institute. Each member was asked to pass them along. after reading. to another member. An interesting paper, submitted by Mrs. Chas. Taylor and read by Mrs. W. Ramsay. Mrs. Frank Macbleill. on Miss A. of the

The January meeting of the Augustine Cove W. I. was held at the home of Mrs. Roy Cutcllffe. The meeting opened by singing "O Canada." followed by the "creed" in unison.

Roll call was responded to by twelve members and two new mem- bers joined. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Correspondence was read and

discussed. It was decided to have the Film Projector at the school. each memberilto bring candy and lunches. The school committee reported several articles were needed for the school. Cards of thanks were read for baby gifts and shut-in boxes. The new committees are as follows: school, sick and program. Mrs. Kenneth Dawson and Mrs. Wendell MacFadyen; lunch. Mrs. Eldon Dawson. Mrs. Vernle Webs- ter. Mrs.,Myrtle Peters and Mrs. Bryce Clarke.

IMrs. Murdoch Macsween enter- tained the members of the spring- vale W.I. on January 13th for their monthly meeting. The president was absent and the vice-president took charge of the meeting. All members joined in the singing of the ode. repeating the creed and a silent prayer.

The roll call was answered by nine members and there were three vis- itors bf0sen't. There were no reports from the committees and new ones were appointed as follows: School. Misses Erna Coles and Edith Mac- Leod; sick, Mrs. Vincent White. Mrs. Frank Crabbe and Mrs. Austin Sentner. '

A discussion on the Musical Fest- ival followed and it was the opin- ion of the members that the selec- tions chosen for the program were far beyond the country school child- ren and that the festival would be of more advantage to them if more interesting ones were chosen. It was decided to send five dollars as a group membership fee, and the

An invitation for any member to attend Canada Day at the A. C. - W. W. conference was received and a lovely card of thanks for a Christmas gift was passed in.

Discussions on ways in increase the Institute funds resuited in a vote on two parties. It was finally decided to leave this for the Feb- ruary meeting.

Miss Edith Macl'..eod kindly in- vlted the members for their next meeting. Lunch committee will he Mrs. Austin sentner. Mrs. Vincent White. Mrs. Murdoch Macsween and Mrs. Ralph Crabbe. Roll call is to be answered with an exchange of Valentines.

The meeting closed with "The Queen” after which a very interest- ing contest was put on by Miss Erna Coles and won by Miss Edith Mscneod. sewing and knitting were distributed by the Red Cross con- vener. Mrs. Frank Crabbe. The hostess and committee served a de- licious lunch.

A lively auction then look place. with Mrs. Ernest McLeod ably acting as auctioneer. which result- ed-in 35.05 being taken in. Mrs. Edison McLeod put on an interest- ing contest which was" won by Mrs. John McRae. Mrs. John McLeod entertained with I Bingo game with several prizes.

The January meeting of the Springfield Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Craw- ford Sinclair with an attendance of 17 members and two visitors. The president Mrs. Reginald Has- lam, presided and the meeting was opened by singing "0 Canada" and repeating the Creed in um- son.

The minutes of the last meet- mg were read, approved and signed. The school committee re- ported havlng purchased treats and a report was given of same. also of the box sent to the adopt- ed Instltute in England. Mrs Keith Mayne was appointed on the new school committee and is to get all articles necessary for the children to have hot cocoa at school.

Correspondence was read and discussed as follows: a card re- ceived from the English Institute, a. thank you card from a member, a letter from the March ,of Dimes. also several gifts from the adopt- ed Institute. On motion. 35.00 was voted for the March of Dimes campaign.

A discussion then took place concerning a Valentine party to be held in the hall. the date to be decided upon at the next meet- ing.

Mrs. Norris Sinclair invited the members to her home for the next meeting when roll call is to ,be answered with "A country I would like to visit and why". Entertain- ment is to be provided by Mrs. Ernest I-laslam and Mrs. Norris Sinclair; lunch provided by Mrs. William I-faslam, Mrs. Crawford Sinclair. Mrs. Ernest I-faslam and Mrs. George Dunning.

The meeting adjourned by sing- ing the Institute Ode. Collection amounted to 81.00.

CARLETON W. I. -The monthly meeting of Car- leton Women's Institute met at the home of Mrs. Allison Harper on Tuesday, January 6th. The presi- dent presided and opened the meet- ing with 'i.he Institute ode follow- ed by the creed in unison. Fifteen members responded to roll call, and four visitors were present.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Correspondence was read and discussed. It was moved and second d five dollars be sent to "Save the Children Fund": also that Mrs. A. MacCa.llum take the course in First Aid, and -that ten dollars be donated to Cape Traverse Institute towards an organ for the hall. It was decided to in- vita Cape Traverse Institute to the February meeting.

Proceeds from the pantry sale which was held at Holmansxon December lath amounted to 327.02, and proceeds from the Christmas apron amounted to 812.90.

SPRINGTON W. I.

The regular monthiy meeting of the Springton W. I. was held at the home of Mrs. Ralph Thomp- son on Wednesday, January 'lih, with the president in the chair. The meeting opened by repeating the creed in unison.

Roll call was answered by six members, answering with "what I look forward to most in the new year.',' After reading and sgning of the minutes, a bill of 31.9 was presented for treats for four shut ins in the district also bills of s5.'l5 for capsules and 312.05 for cards, which were moved and sec- onded to be paid.

It was reported that oilcloth has been laid in the cloakroom of the school. It was moved and second- ed that a bill of 47c for strapping for oilcloth, 29 cents postage and 25 cents for yeast cakes be paid.

NEW GLASGOW W. I.

The January meeting of New Glasgow Women's Institute was held at the home of Miss Elsie Leard on Monday evening, January 5th, Miss M. E. Campbell taking charge. The meeting opened with "0 Canada", followed by Creed. Roll call was responded to by 15 members and two visitors.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Unfinished b i was discussed regarding the piano fund. The secretary was to write for price, etc. .

Miss Ann Stevenson reported that the Community Club plans to give a donation towards the piano. A number of members of- fered to collect in the district. as follows: Mrs. Devereaux. Mrs. Har- land Hill. Mrs. Howard Ling, Mrs. George Dickleson...Miss Ann Stev- enson, Mrs. R. L. Dlckieson, and Mrs. H. K. -Dlckleson.

The Red Cross work is to be in charge of Mrs. Harland Hill. Re- ports from dfferent committees were then giv and new ones appointed as follows: School and lunch, Miss Lynetta Browni and Mrs. W. L. Dlckleson; sick, Mrs. R. L. Dickieson and Miss M. E. Campbell.

Several "thank you's" were read from members who received cards and treats at Christmas. It was
