Unexcusabie High Fans Getting Fed Up With the Scene at UPE] Games

What do you call an event where there is a whistle sounding every 30 seconds? No it’s not a traffic director or a whistling contest. Believe it or not, it is a UPEI hockey game.

Those of you who have attended the three UPEI hockey home games at the Civic Centre can understand this. There is more whistle _ blowing than hockey playing. Fans are getting fed up with this obstruction of the game.

I enjoy watching university hockey because I know the dedication that these players put into their game. I have attended many UPEI hockey games over the

past 10 years and this is the worst year yet. I can understand the referees no tolerance rule. It is for the protection of the players that referees are making so many calls, in hopes of avoiding another event like last years play-off game against Moncton. Referees are calling more penalties because they know that they have the full power to throw out any individual who argues with them .

Do the referees think that this will make the players play better, cleaner hockey? Of course it won’t. It makes them agitated which then makes them get more penalties.

Someone must take action against the referees and help allow the hockey players play hockey. Do they expect fans to come out and watch a hockey game when there are 41 penalties called? I have heard people talking about how annoyed they are with the officiating of the hockey games. Maybe we should bring in off-Island referees or teach our referees how to officiate a hockey game. | do not know what the solution is but something must be done or we risk loosing our hockey fi al -fo Cr Patrick Ross

Week In Review

The Five Year Plan had the week of October 28th off. Apparently the Corduroy Warriors came down with a serious case of malaria and decided it was in their best interest to postpone the match until they could fully recover. This game was to be the first for new FYP Head Coach Mr. Hands. Unfortunately, Mr. Hands could not be reached for comment. Acting team spokesman Dave Christian, however, commented "We are extremely disappointed that we could not play [the Corduroy Warriors] this week and we do wish them a speedy

recovery.” Mr. Christian further commented that the FYP has made

recommendations to the league that all teams be vaccinated to prevent any further outbreaks of the disease.

In other FYP news, defensive demons Pat Perry and Dale Tingley returned from a missionary voyage to

Fredericton, New Brunswick early last week. The two players have taken it upon themselves to spread the FYP philosophy to other regions of the Maritimes. Mr. Perry and Mr. Tingley claim that the mission was a success and are looking forward to their next trip. The next stop on their crusade is Halifax, Nova Scotia. Mr. Tingley will not be able to attend but teammates Geoff Smith and Dave Christian will be taking his place. Finley Martin also plans to spread the FYP message into Quebec when he ventures to Montreal for a conference on sports marketing. Mr. Martin will be giving a seminar there entitled "The Five Year Plan's Impact on the Future of Professional Sports”.
