Nova Scotta Mrxixnc Notes.—A one hun- dred and sixty ounce brick of gold from the North Brookfield mine, Queen’s County, N.S., was the clean-up last month. The result of the clean-up at the Graves mine, Whiteburn, Queen's, for the month ending 7th Sept., was 135 ozs. The August clean-up of the McGuire mine, Whiteburn, Queen's, was over 100 ozs. of gold from 31 tons quartz.

Tue Cenrery. - Among the announcements of The Century for last year was one of a series of ‘* letters home ” from Japan, by the American artist Mr. John La Farge: The letters have been revised and expanded into a series covering the landscape, art, architec- ture, life and religion ot Japan, for which Mr. La Farge has made a great number of illustra- tions, and these papers are to be a feature of The Century during the coming year, Mr. La Parge’s brief paper on Japanese art pub- lished in “Mr. Pumpelly’s ‘Across America and Asia,” was one of the earliest thoroughly appreciative essays on the subject of Japan.
