Mrs. Harry Cudmore, director of Red Cross swimming and water safety for Prince Edward Island. expressed her appreciation of the work of tho Y's Men of Summer- side whose untiring efforts had made the swimming meet the suc- cess it was. She said there were now many good swimmers as com- pared to a few years ago, and stat- ed the added interest in swimming and water precaution was respon- sible. .
Miss Evelyn Henry, of Keppoch, the young lady who had success- fully swiim across the Northumb- erland Strait. was present at the hanquet and gave a short talk on her now famous swim. She mod- estly denied that it was any great feat and said these were lots of Island boys and girls who could do it if they trained properly be- forehand.
Other speakers who congratulat- the winners and expressed their appreciation of the work of the S'Sii:le. Y's Men were: Mr. Paul Gallant of Souris, Dr. Ray Barrett. of Charlottetown. Messrs. BERLIN. Aug. 22 -(AP)- Jesse Owens returned today to the scene of his 1936 Olympic triumphs and received a thundering ovation 15 years overdue.
