The atmosphere is so clear that each star of any magnitude seems almost like a moon, and casts its independent track upon the water ; while as to the moon herself, how can one describe the beauty of that pale, golden sphere, which hangs suspended like a huge globe from the deep azure vault ot Heaven, shedding so strong a light that it is easy to read by it. To- ward six o'clock the stars begin to pale and even the moon to lose some of her eflulgence hefore the bright light of the coming dawn, which, in its turn has to give way to the rising sun, the earliest rays of which gild the mountain tops, and throw a roseate tint over the desert wasts of sand stretching into the far distance and over the fields of dazzl ing green nearer at hand. Soon the whole landseape is flooded with life and light, ‘and and&ther bright, cloudless Egyptian day has begun. But, if the suprises are beautiful, what she!l I say of the sunsets! About the one there is almost an air of chillness—a hope and promise of what is to come, mingled with a feeling of responsibility, and a sort of half dread of what the day may ossibly bring forth. About the other there is a sense of fulfillment and re- pose, before night comes and throws her mantie over the world,—Lady

Lord Granville has served the longest time in office, 28 years and 1 month, and the longest in the Cabinet, 28 years and 2 months. Mr. Gladstone has been in office 22 years and 10 months, and in the Cabi- net 20 years and 9 months. Only two British statemen have been longer in public hfe than Sir John Macdonald, who has now occupied a seatin parlia- ment continuously for forty-one years, wud none has served longer in office than the Cavadian statesman.
