We actually had a light full of snow yesterday afternoon about a quarter to four o'clock. It was like u dreani—alinost as quickly gone as come; but it served nsa topic for wonder and cliit-chat throughout the city. Some of the children down town, black and white. who had never before seen the article, were frightened half out of their wits by its appearance.

THE GREAT POLAR OCEAN.

At the last meeting of the Geographical Society, Lieut. Osborne, a member ofone of the British Arctic expeditions, argued, at some length in favour of the eu port of the existence of it great Polar Ocean. Ile said that in Vellington channel, he had observed im- menee numbers of whales running out from under the ice, ti proof that they had been to water and come to water. lle further said that there were almost constant flights of ducks and geese, from the northward, another proof of water in thutdirection, since these birds found their food only in such water. He added it was his de- liberate opinion, from observations made on the spot, that whales passed a Wellington Channel into a northern sea. In referiince to the abu ance ofsnimal life, in the latitude oftliis sup red Polar Sea, he remarked that while, on the southern side 0 Lancaster Sound, he never saw giime enough to keep his dog, Melville Island, red and lilty miles to the northward, nbounded in deer and It was thus clear, he continued that animal life did rid on latitude, but increased, ifan thin . after passing the seventieih degree. Moreover, while in Be n's ay. the tide made for the southward, coming from the Atlantic, in Bari-ow's Straits it made for the northward, which could only be explained on the hypo- thesis ofu sea in that direction. All this seems to its proof of it great Polar Ocean.

A German paper speaks of a plan which we have not seen else- where announced, of a house which is about to be built in England for the benefit of persons sutferin under complaints of the lungs.
