The U.P.E.I.S.U. has a new business mana- ger, Mr. J.T. 2Mickey" Place. .—Primarily to assi— st ther treasurer in his fimctions and to provide continuity to the Student Union in general. 7

Mr. Place was selec- ted fran a potential 14 applicants. The pre-scr- eening and interviewing of applicants was done by a cdrmittee composed of Pat Duffy,S.U.President; Lennie McCardle,S.U.Tre- asurer;and Dennis Clough.

The Studen Union has set up an isory committee comprised of De- nnis Clough,Ccmptroller, who has a permanent posi- tion on the committee; a representative from the faculty, presently Bob E1- 1ison on a‘3—year term; a representative from the alumni, presently Jim Lar- kin, with a 2-year term; and the President and Tr- easurer of the S.U. This panel was structured so as to provide as much co— ntinuity as possible. The responsibility of the co- mmittee is to assist the Business Manager in orie- ntating himself to the U- niversity environment ,and to advise, if so requested to do so, on any contriv— ersial issues. The main purpose of the panel is to-see that\in the event

International dishes, costumes, and traditions- friendly people, music,and coversation around a fire— place, and lots of fun-— these were just some of ’ the items on the menu for those Who came together to‘enjoy this yearly event sponsored by the Inter-Va— rsity Christian Fellowship of the Maritime provinces. It is held to bring toge— ther International stude— nts for the enjoyment of a Canadian Christmas, to share the Christmas tr- aditions of their own cou— ntries, and’to meet new friends.

The festivities be- gan with a traditional. search for the best tree in the woods. Scme rema- ined in the lodge to make the decorations. There was ample opportunity to learn new skills such as skating, curling,c'ross— country skiing, and snow shoeing.

One afternoon was spent hiking and tobogg', arming which terminated in a snowball fight,then a drink of steaming hot ‘ Chinese tea.

International Christ mas

A highlight was Int- ernational Night when each country represented ,had to prepare a favorite dish for the banquet and take part in a fun night which followed. ,

As Christmas dinner was just finishing,Santa arrived on the scene with gifts for everyone. Lat- er that night we gathered together to hear the Chr- istmas story and to have it dramatized by the st- udents. /

All in all, we had a great time together and to quote one of the stu- dents,"It was a very me- aningful way to spend Christmas."

Thanks to the S.U. and Student Services whose contributions en- abled same of our stud- ents to be part of this gathering and a special thanks to Dick, Danny, Zeno,Warren,and Raphael who helped make this past Christmas one of my best, yet.

of Banking. Mr. Place took an early retirement from CFCY,and as he has always been interested in the university, (he has been in the press box at almost every University hockey game since 1947) , he chose to jion us.

‘ The S.U. Executive has placed a great deal of trust and responsib- ility in the office of Bu- siness Manager and they feel that Mickey Place is

the type of man who will accept the duties of his office and carry them out in such a manner as to bring confidence and pride to this position. The Ex- ecutive extends a warm in- 'vitation to any and all students to drop down to the office to meet Mr. :Place.

Mr. Place has signed a one—year contract and assumed the duties of his office on January second.
