His Excellency expressed hi; pleasure at being present, and spoke of the new wing which is being erected at the City Hospital and which is nearing oomplcti l. He said "we know what this new and lnrge hospital will mean to the ordinary man and woman in this Province who have contribut- ed largely to its financing and maintenance with all its modern equipment and experienced fac- ulty as well as its scientific diag- nosis and miracle drugs that si- most bring dead men to life." He congratulated the 17th Reece Reg- iment Bond, who were in attend- ance to provide the music for the opening, and in his closing re- marks said "I declare the Ba r Officially open and feel that it will again be the success it has been for so many years in the past."

Ho spoke of the 101 additional beds which will be available for patients when the new wing to the hospital is completed which ,will make it a hospital "second to none in the Maritimes", and spoke high praise for the nursing Sisters and the medical staffs on whose shoulders rests the responsibility of such a. hospital. "The people", Dr. MacMillen concluded "are making the greatest investment that can be made, where their money is put to the very best use so that their friends and families will be sure, when they go to hos- pital, that they will get the very best in medical cal-c and treat- merit." _

ARRESTS FOLLOW DISTURB- ANCE—A disturbance on Grafton Street in front of a dance hall about l2 o'clock Saturday night resulted in the gathering of more than 300 people and the arrest of two men. City Police broke up the disturbance in front of the dance hall but one of the disturb- ers escaped and ran. The police gave pursuit, followed by a mob of about 150. The man ducked up Great George Street and hid. By this time another I50 people had gathered, and this combined with perked cars and heavy traffic caused a complete tie-up. The conference opened on Sat- urday night with a banquet at the Charlottetown for visiting deleg- ates. their wives and invited guests. The affair was e huge success from start to finish and is said to be the largest gathering ever to take place at The Char- lottetown, there being 275 present. Presiding was the retiring presid- ent of the Maritime inter-group who in his address to the assemb- llsge stated it was an honor and a privilege for him to have served for the past year. He ststedthst the gathering was a magnificent tribute to A. A. and urged the members to go fol-ward to bigger and better things in the future.

The address of welcome to the visitors was given by the presid- ent of the Charlottetown group.

Guest speaker was an A. A. member from Montpelier, Ver- mont, whose story of the vicissit- udes that an alcoholic undergoes was listened to with rapt attention. ‘The speaker told of the grim ex- periences he himself had under- gone and how he had picked up with A. A. and of how this now world-wide association had helped him regain his rightful place in society.

The clergy were represented by two guest speakers. both of whom paid high compliments to the magnificent work that A. A. la doing and will con- tinue to do. Both stressed the fact that an alcoholic can nev- cr be cured-he will always be an alcoholic and just one drink away from a drurik—but, they said Alcoholics Anonymous presents a way of arresting it. Both stressed the importance of the spiritual part of the program. which also was emphasised by the retiring president and other speakers.

Greetings from other groups were conveyed to the Charlotte- town group by the other speakers heard.

The annual meeting of the Marl- time inter-group was held Sunday morning, st which a new slate of officers was named for the next year; in the afternoon a closed meeting, at which. 175 were pre- sent, was held in Prince of Wales College auditorium. The new pre- sldent presided, and ln his open- ing remarka sincerely thanked the association for the honor bgstowed upon him. Delegates from the vis- iting groups were heard in short addresses while the guest speaker was the member from Montpelier. Vermont. In order to preserve the anonymity of the Association names cannot be disclosed but a- gain the members heard stories of how men who had hit rock bot- tom had been brought back on even keel by following the A. A.’ program and the twelve steps it embraces.
