Georgetown and I I I Vicinity

The Cardigan Co-operative load- ed a car of Turnips at Georgetown during this week. which were sup- plied by the farmers o! George- town, Royality and Burnt point. Mr. Earl Walsh was in charge o! the car loading.

Mink Ranchers in and around Georgetown are engaged in pelt- ing operations. Some report. that the minks are slower priming this season, which is n0 doubt. in- iluenced by the absence of cold weather. Between two hundred and filty and three hundred annuals] \vi1l be pelted by the ranchers inl this area. i

The Gorernment machines were iii Georgetown a few days ago and did some grading and ditching of the ground around the new Rink and Recreational Centre. Work on the Centre is progress- ing very rapidly and satisfactorily. The root has been completed and covered with asphalt shingles. The west wail and part oi the south cnd are now covered with a rczl and black brick siding material. The windows are all in place on the south end and shutters are being made tor the side windows. The work on the built-on pump house on the west side is now completed. It has a {our loot deep concrete wall (below ground) and will have a rotary pump and electric motor. The promenade wall has been erected and work on the erection o! the two fines is going ahead rapidly. The elec- trical wiring u! the building is scheduled to start within a few days and will be done by Mr. HS. MacLesn. local electrical contract- or. Mr. Rndey MscMilian or Wood Island, who was foreman during the time of the framing o! the

building and until the roof construction was completed, has terminated his duties and Mr. Albert Skinner is now Iorcman.

Mayor P. L. Boudreault has been in charge of building operations. ordering and resembling materials and labour during the construction and has been assisted by members o! his Council and Town clerk and the Building Committee o! the Community Wcliare League.

The monthly meeting oi the Georgetown Community Weiiare League was held in the Council Chambers on Monday, decembcr 5.. with a large attendance o! mem- bers present. President FJ. Solo- mim presided. In the absence o! the treasurer. H. S. MacLesn. the rins- ncial report was read by the aeo- retai-y, Cullen DeLory. 'I‘his report was moved and adopted. lo was decided that letters of thanks and receipts would be mailed to in- dividuals and firms who have liv- en donations to the League. to assist in financing the new Rink and Recreational Centre. Follow- Ing a general discussion it was un- animously decided to continue the practicoolzlvlng Christmas baskets to the aged and shut-ins o: the town and. also to again have a community Christmas Tree. which will be erected this you at Mae- Donaldh Comer, at the inter- section ot Water and Kent Streets. the arrangements for baskets and the tree will be in charge o! the entertainment committee.
