For many years he was President of the Prince County Liberal Association and oa two occasions, 1870 and 1876,he offered us a candidate for the third electoral dietrice of Pricee. He was passionately tond of reading, hed a very reientive memory and his micd was liter- ally stored with arich fundof practical knowledge on various sujecits, which he was alle to use with telling cffect in argu~ ment or debate.

For many years he was a frequent con~ triputor to the Lewspaper press. His stvie was pungent and on controvereal subjects his articles sometimes bristled with mingled logic and denunciation, but were always highlv prized by the editors, whom be favored with them. He has al-o written some excejlent newspaper stories some of which have appeared in our Is-- land newspapers and others have been thought worthy of a place in some «f the leading newspapers of the United Stites, He was fond of writing, even as 40 amuese-~ ment, and had he chosen journalism aa profession he would ucdoubtedly Lave ex celled in it. Of late years, lovever, he ba3 contented Limself with sometimes writing bistoric and narative s.e-ches in which he excelled, and of which hi- articles on “The Irish Exiies” avd “The Expatriation of the men of Barra” which appeared tome time ago in the Chir.otte- town newspapers, may be taken as far samyles. He leaves two sons, the elder of whom is now practising law in Boston, and four daughters to mourn their lose To these we extend our heartfelt sympathy in their ead bereavement.

Was Stricken With a Supposed In- curable Disease and Forced to Re~ linquish the Work—He Has Now Recovered His Health.

The life ofa Salvation Army worker is very far from being a sivecure. Their duties are not only arduons, but they are called upon by the regulations of the Army to conduct out-of-door meetings at all seasons aod in all kinds of weather. This being the case, it is lutie wonder that the health of these self-sacrificing workers frequently gives away. Capt. Ben. Bryan, whose home is at Maxville, Oat., is well known through his former connection with the Army, having been statioued at such important points as Mone treal, Toronto, Kings on, Guelph, and Brockville, in Canada, and at Schenectady, Troy and other points in the United States. While on duty he was attacked by a so-called incurable disease, but having been restored to bealth by the use of Dr. Williams’ Pink Pilis, a representative of the Alexandria News thought i worth while to procure from his own lips a state- ment of his illsess and recovery, He found Mr. Bryan at work,a healthy, robust man, bis appearance giving no in- dications of his recent suffering.

The story of his illness and subsequent Cure by the use o: Dr. Williams’ Pink Pille reads like a miracle, and is given in his own words as follows :—‘“‘While sta- tionen ai Deseronto, in July, 1897, I was attacked with what the doctors called “Chronie Spinal Meviagitis.” The symp~ toms were sOmewhat similar to those pre~ ceding @ pieuratic attack, but were accom- pauied by spasirs which, whea the paio became to severe, rendered me unconscious, The length of these unconscions spells iv- cressed as the diseare a winced. After spending four months in Kingston Geners! Hospital], and on the Salvation farm, Tor- onto, I regained some of my former strengih andreturned to my work, The secoud attack occured when I was station- ea Schenectady, N. Y., in October, 1898, } and was mure severe then ibe firet. The fymptonms of ihe second attack were very timilar io those which preceded the first, the only apparent difference being they were more severe and the zfer effects were Of longer duration. Owing to the precarious state of my health, 1 was com pelled to resign my pdsition after the sec ond attack and return tomy bome at Maxvilie. While there a friend advieed me to try Dr Willianss’ Pink Pill, and I begun using tbem in March,1899. I have used only a dozen boxes acd am once more enjoying perfect health.
