Every week we will discuss timely ssues regarding sex and sexuality in the modern age. Our discussions will be factual, interesting, and useful to those of you who are sexually active, thinking

about becoming sexually active, and even those of you who are not. For example, next week our column will focus on the most controversial disease of our times, AIDS. AIDS awareness week is from October 2 to 8.

EFFECTIVE READING PROGRAM

Classes start the week of September 11th Location: reading Lab Room 107, Robertson Library, UPEI Instructor: Mrs. Susanne Manovill Fee: $65 for Full-time students, $105 for Part-time students Goal: increased Proficiency in: Reading Speed, Comprehension, Vocabulary, Skimming, Scanning, Study techniques, Coping with Heavy Reading Loads.

Students Input: Minimum of five hours per week consisting of: 4. Choice of one of these scheduled classes:

Monday, 5:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, 11:30am to 1:30pm Wednesday, 11:30am to 1:30pm. 2. individual Study totalling 3 hours or more.

Shinerama '

The 1995 Shinerama Committee would like to thank everyone who participated in our fundraising campaign this year. Although we fell short of our goal by approximately $300, we are very proud of the shiners that took part in helping out a great cause this year. They managed to make approximately $1344 in about six hours. We are still confident that by the end of our campaign’s run in October that we can meet our goal and defeat our rivals -- UNB Saint John.

This year our top shiner is a first year student, Coralie Gill, who made over $150 all by herself. Special mention also goes out to a super group of seven students who made over 250 dollars at the Charlottetown Mall. Special thanks go out to all the businesses and individuals who helped us this year. These include Myron’‘s Restaurant and Bar, CIMN, R.O.W. Records and Tapes, the UPEI Bookstore, The North Rustico Home Center, Compuwiz, The Kiwanis Club of Charlottetown, The UPEI student Union, UPEI Student Services, The Benevolent Irish Society, The Belfast Lions Club, Mickey Place and especially Rebecca VanDerHayden for all her help and support.

The final fundraiser for Shinerama will take place at Myron’s on October fourth. Murderecords recording artists, The Super Friendz, newly signed Cargo Records Strawberry and local Island band Wishbone will play a pub with all profits benefitting the UPEI Shinerama Campaign. So please come on out -- advance tickets are only $5 each. Help contribute to UPEI’s fundraising in aid of Cystic Fibrosis research. Thank you
