Orrawa, August t.—Ono a motion to go into supply Mr. Martin asked why no ap- pointment had been made of a successor to the late County Court Judge of Queen’s, P. E. Island.
He stated that the position had been months vacast, and that there was no machinery for the performance of the duties by a substitute judge.
The court was now about to meet and those interested wonld have to go back home without a hearing.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier saidthe reason the appointment had not been made was that the Opposition bad been giving the Gov- ernment so much trouble that there bad been no time to attend to it.
Mr. McDonald ssid this was frivolous, The case was too serious to be put off that way. There was no reason for this delay except that the Government's own friends in the Province had been giving the Gov- ernment trouble over their rival claims for the appointment.
Hon. Mr. Hester asked Mr. Laurier if he had nothing better to say than what he had said.
Mr. Laurier said that he bad no kaowl- edge of the matter, but would consult Sir Louis Davies,

Norra Sypver, C. B., August 1.—Cus- toms officials made a big seizure at thie port yesterday. The steamer Ailea Craig from Rangoon, India, with a cargo of rice for Montreal arrived for bunker coal, and was seized by Cuetome officials for having on board a large quantity of cigare. This steamer when at this port two years ago, was reported to have disposed of contra- band cigars in large quantities.
