B., Aug. 12—The many | cases of marvellous restoration to bealth from various forms of kidney trouble which have been constantly appearing in the daily press of the Dominien have for sometime awakened the liveliest interest here, and the remedy by which the cures were effected namely, Dodd’s Kidney Pills, are obtaining great celebrity throughout the province. The appearance cf the testimonials of Drs. Rose and McCormick stating the benefits which they bad per sonally derived from their use was con sidered a sufficient sign of the merits of the remedy, and the other interesting and wonderful cases which have since been chronicled has caused the specific to have an exceptional sale.

Lord Roberts the other day gave strong reasons for reversing Lord Rosebery’s policy of abandoning Chitral and with- drawing to the old frontier. It is open to the present government to adopt this policy nothwithstanding the determination reached by the Jae minister, and it 1s not unlikely that the view of Lord Roberts will commend itself to the present premier. These are only a few of thi foreign questions with which the firs: minister must deal now that he is wel settled in his office.

One day she ran away. An Officer took her to a station-house and com- municated with the socicty in whose care she has since remained. At the first home in which the society placed her to board she showed her ropal pro- clivities to a marked degree, pilfering everything she could in the way of Jewelry and laces. The next place the society procured for her was with a refined family in the country. Here Nanette read in a book of etiquette that to wear jewelry was bad form. An Odd Custom,

The oldest temperance society in the world is the abstaining commune in Achlyka, in Siberia, all of whose mem bers are strict teetotallers every day im the year except one. Regularly on the first day of September, year after year, all the adult members of the commune asemble in the parish church, and everyone takes a solemn vow be fore the altar to drink no wine, beer or spirits “from the morow” of the follow- ing day for the whole year. The clause, “from the morrow” is introduced in or- der to give them a reward for their vitues in the shape of a whole day of G@runken~ carnival. As soon as they leave the church they begin to indu'ge in a horrible Bacchanalian drinking, which continues throughont the day, until neither man nor women in the vil- lage is sober. This is naturally follow- ed by considerable physical suffering, and t hen by mental remorse, where- upon the penitent parish enters upon its twelvemonth of model sobriety, and ell live like the Rechabites.
