ATLAS SUCCESSES - MORE WORK TO DO by Rosemary Curley

This coming field season is the final one of a five year project for the Maritimes Breeding Bird Atlas. The maps presented here succinctly identify the work yet to be done in order to complete the Maritimes Breeding Bird Atlas to satisfaction. "Satisfaction" is the completion of priority squares. Two Halifax residents have volunteered to finish those squares west of Charlottetown but volunteers are needed for the eastern areas.

For icing on the cake, think also of secondary and tertiary squares. Perhaps you can help complete a species list in one or more areas. All contributions are welcomed. This year saw the first records for breeding Eastern Bluebirds and first Atlas records for Marsh Wren, Redhead, Warbling Vireo, Philadelphia Vireo, Hood Thrush, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Fox Sparrow, and Willow Flycatchers (These records remain under review as we go to press). Exciting as these are, it is the information on common species that is of the most interest.
