WWE Implements Campus Programs

those who enjoyed harming smaller siblings with moves like the figure four and the pile driver while they were little. World Wrestling Entertainment, also known as the WWE, has implemented an experimental program across four Canadian provinces in the hopes of drumming up support in favor of the controversial sports entertainment program.

Fourteen applicants selected from the provinces of Alberta, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or Ontario will be honored with the title of “WWE Ambassadors” and will be expected to creatively pursue activities such as “establishing and reinforcing [the WWE’s] presence on their campus, promoting the WWE brand and properties, creating excitement and/or founding a promoting a WWE fan

club,” or so says the press release issued from Toronto in mid-February. As the primary goal of the WWE is and obviously always has been the education of its fans, the company offers a $500 honorarium to all ambassadors, as well as a $5000 internship to one lucky ambassador considered to be the best in the field.

The program, titled “WWE Underground,” is set for expansion if viewed as successful by its completion at the end of April. Interested parties may contact WWE public relations

Pacers, Pistons See Another Bizarre Twist

_ The Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons, the two teams who shall remain forever infamous for their roles in a brawl with fans that took place in November, experienced another strange and troublesome occurrence on Friday. The game was delayed by an hour and twenty five minutes after a bomb threat was called in, purportedly with the explosive located in the Pacers dressing room. Officials found no evidence ofa bomb in the stadium after bomb sniffing dogs were employed for security.

The game itself was won by the Pacers, 94-81, with fans in the upper levels brawling as the game wound down. “Playoff level” — security eventually quashed the outburst. As is the norm at the Palace stadium in Detroit, the service of liquor was not halted until the end of the third quarter.

Joel Ward Receives Awards, Again

Joel Ward, who must be tired of getting recognized (a problem which

often plagues this reporter), was awarded the R.W. Pugh award for the Most Sportsmanlike Player in the CIS. Ward, who was first in conference scoring and only second Canada-wide, spent a mere 42 minutes in the penalty box in the past year.

Ward also enjoyed being named to the first All-Canadian team.

Joel played his OHL hockey with Owen Sound before coming to UPEI. He was rookie of the year for the Panthers in 2001-2002 and MVP in 2002-2003. Joel has been at the Detroit Red Wing training camp twice during his career. He enjoys spending time with friends, music, and hockey. He hopes to play pro hockey after graduating.

NHL Files Legal Complaint

Gary Bettman has finally left the boardroom to go to a courtroom, says a TSN report. The NHL has filed a complaint regarding a stipulation set by the union which states any NHL player who becomes a replacement player is bound to repay the money they received as compensation during the lockout.

Lockout payments figure around $10,000 dollars per player, per month.

The NHL, claiming that such a policy restricts the right of the individual to decide whether he belongs to the union and restricts the options left to locked-out players, has filed an “unfair labor practice” against the union.

The complaint comes on the heels of the cancellation of the 2005 NHL draft which was to be held in Ottawa. With the ever slimming possibility that a 2005-2006 season will be held, a draft would be held via telephone conference to see who would get the likes of highly anticipated players like Sidney Crosby and Gilbert Brule. Ottawa has been promised that the draft will return there in the near future.

The NHLPA has recently concluded a meeting in which it considered two league proposals with a deadline of the 8" of April, while the NHL itself has a board of governors meeting set for the 20".
