A Sr. Jomn’s, N. F., despatch of the 9th inst. states the sealing steamer ‘‘Wolf,’ the first of the Northern fleet, has just arrived, with about 6,000 old and young seais—not half a load. She brings very unfavorable reports. Nearly all the vessels have poorly fished. It is supposed that the main body of harp seals drifted south before the fleet got out through the heavy ice. Another steamer, “Hector,” ig signalled. She is forcing in towards the harbor, and is apparently making = way through the ice, now close to the

At the Stipendiary Magistrates Court, this forenoon, James Goodman appeared, charged with stealing a coat. He was remanded to jail. James Docian, John Brogan, and James Farady, were each fined fifty cents and costs for assaalting Peter Woods. Alonzo Man- thorn, charged with assaulting Michael Ken- nedy was remanded to jail fer eight days. George Pearin, was sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labor, for stealing s barrel of flour from the warehouse of Owen Connolly, Esq Charles Yeo, Port Hill, on complaint of Charles Robertson, Esq., for breaking a pane of plate glass in the window of his store, Queen Street, was fined $20, and eosts of $20.
