Fast Atlantic Steamship Service

Date of Proregation Still in Doubt.

Orrawa, June 15—Sir Richard Cart- wright vesterday afternoon moved ap- proval of the Fast Line Steamship contract. He said that the propose! vessels will be ten thousand tons; speed, 2] knots, and of the Comvania type. The only question of doubt that had arisen he said was as’to the capacity of Messrs. Peterson & Ta‘t to carry Out the contract. (a this point the Government had satisfied itseif. Sir Charles Tupper regretted that the ships were to be turret ships. He knew of no fast passenger line that had turret ships.

Mr. Wood, of Hamilton, a government supporter, spoke against the whole Fast Atiantic Steamship echeme.

Sir Richard Cartwright stated in answer to a questian that it was not the intention] of the Gevernment to create a railway comraission. :

GEN- WEYLER MUST GO. Campos Will Not Agree to a Continuation of His Poticy.

A despatch to the New York Herald from Havana say: “It is believed here, now that the long suppressed news of af- fairs in Madrid has been made,public, that General Weyler’s return to Spain will be the most important result of Canovas’ success in retaining power. Private tele- grains have been sent to persons here in which it was distinctly stated that Campos, Dominguez and Pidal bad given their eupport to Canovas only with the plain stipulation that General Weyler should go. In fact, it is felt here that Campoa, who is now in power in Spain and fills the popslar eye, would not on any account lend him- self tothe continuation of General Weyler’s policy. The plan is to send General Lar- in here from Porto Rico and than supplant him in turn by General Blanee or Campos. The private telegrams seem to leave no doubt as to General Weyler’s coming re- tirement, and big as is the responsibility for changing captains at socritical a point, it appears to be settled. The first duty of Weyler’~ successor, when he comes, will be to al’ow the starving reconcentrados to go at once into the fertile fields and cul- livate there 'he means of life which are denied the:n inside the diteh«s and forte.
