Sad Death of Mrs. Selig. Hawirax, Oct. 4.

The evidence taken on the request of the S. P. C. A. at the coruner’s in4jUest, concerning the death of Mrs. Selig, shows that an investigation was necessary. The doctor was sent for to pull her teeth. He vave her ether, and her husband held her hands. After a number of teeth were ex. tracted, she revived and begged them to let hergo. Her husband let go her hands, but Dr. Andrews said, ‘* Dawn you, hold on,” and some more teeth were extracted, Afterwards the doctor gave her something tu ease the pain, when she dragged herself to her bedroom moaning piteously. She became unconscious in a short time and died. — Dr. Jacques performed a post mor-

The Whitechapel Murders, T.onpon, Oct. 4. The British Medical Journal, referring to the Whitechapel murders, Says: The Coronor’stheory thattheassassin s work was carried on under impulse of pseudo-scien tific mania, has been exploded by a first attempt at serious investigation. It is true that a foreign physician inquired, a year or two ag», as to the possibility of securing parts of the body for the purpose of scien- tific investigation, but no large sum was oifered, and the physician in question is of the highest respectability and exceedingly well accredited.

Killing a Bear. Kineston, Ont., Oct. 4.

A black bear, weighing 400 pounds, was killed near here this morning. Geo. Bab- cock came near lusing his life in the en- counter. The bear buried his teeth in his thigh, lacerating the flesh badly, A dog, when it saw Babeock down, fiercly attacked the bear and sayed Babcuck’s life,

We understand the personal and political friends ef the late Wm. Haslam, Kisq., of Springfield, are putting forth efforts to erect a monument to his memory in the churchyard at Springfield. Mr. Haslam was a true friend and a staunch supporter of his party, and his kindness and hospitality were proverbial. This step is an evidence of the esteem in which he was held.
