Sin, —The report of the Chief Superin- tendent of Edueatior§ for 1892 has just resched here. Ona the geport asa whole, | do not intend to make any commont. To meé statement, however, I wish to take ‘KCeption publicly.

On page 73, the chief in referring to the school department in Summerside, presided over by Mr. Neil Macleod, says: ** Mr. Macleod stands at the head of the profes- sion in our Province. The work in his de- partment was far in advance of any other in the Province ”

In jastice to Principal Macleod, the Sup- erintendent himself, the teachers and the public, the report should contain facte to show cause for the statement. Nothirg of this, however, is seen. I do no not wish in any way to disparage the character of the work done by Principal Macleod, but a statement publicly made, which ig calcu lated to prejudice the public im favor of tkat gentleman, and uaduly exalt him at he expeose of the great majority of our teachers, demands notice at least as public se that given by our chief to Mr. Macleod.

The medalists ot the Prince vf Wales College since 1877, sre Summerside, two; Valleyfield, two; Alberry Plains, three; Marshfield, three; Georgetown, four and Charlottetown thir- een. This, I think, speaks something for he foundation laid by those teachers from whom these studerits have come,

Facts, I repest, are against the chief's statement. These figures tell the tale, and yet, forsooth, the public are told that Principal Macleod is king among the braves! Pahaw! Many of our teachers, I believe, if placed in positions similar to hatof Mr. MacLeod’s, would, judging from known results, prove to be at least that gentlemau’s peers.
