The Belgo~Canadian Pulp and Paper Corporation, of whicb;Messrs. Edmund de Vylder and Herman Cornet, of Brussels, Belginm, are the principal stockholders, bave recently completed arrangements to establish at Shawinigan Falls. P. Q., a 100-ton ground wood pulp mill,a 75-ton pulp mill and a100-ton paper mill, and bave contracted with the Sbawinigan Water and Power Company for 15,000 horee power of water and the necessary land for the storage of pulp and for their pumeroue mill buildings, and have also purchased over 700 equare miles of heavily timbered spruce lands on the St. Maurice River, which will afford them an almost inexhaustible supply of pulp wood.

The pulp and Paper Company’s Engi- neer, A C Rice, Evquire, at Worcester, Mass., has engaged to take the natural conditions as they are, furnish al) plans and epecifications, place all contracts for the development of power, the erection of buildings aud the furnishing of such machinery and supplies as may be neces« sary to equip the millsto make the re- quired product.

The building of the pulp mille will be commenced at once and the contracis call for the completion of the same tot Jater than June let, 1900, while other mil] buildings must be completed within two years from the present time. Nearly a thousand men will he required to perform this work within the specified time, in addition to which over 750 men will go into the woods this fall to cecure a supply of pulp wcod for these mills during the season of 1901.

The factory buildings of the Pittsburgh Reduction Company at Shawinigan Falls are now far advanced towards completion and will soon be ready to receive a large number of mill operatives. In addition tothe Pittsburg Reduction Company and the Belgo-Canadian Pulp and Paper Cor- poration it is highly probable that the third of the four large manufacturing eons cerns who have contracted for land for mill buildings and power to operate the same, will commence work at Shawinigan Fails thisseason, This Satisfactory con- dition Of affairs is certain to seeure steady empleyment and good wages to all people ia that part of the Provnce of Quebec.
