Lord Dufferin Appointed Ambas- sador to St. Petersburg.

Lonpon, Feb. 10.—It is officially an- nounced that Lord Loftus has resigned the Wmbassy to St. Petersburg, and accepted the Governorship of New South Wales. Lord Dufferin has been appointed his sue- cessor to St. Petersburg. The press are Unanimots in their praise of the appoint- ment.

The Times says: ‘ It is wnnecessary to re-echo Lord Dufferin’s praises, which are in all men’s mouths. Few public men have been covered with eulogies so unanimons and so well deserved. His fame has grown to remarkable proportions during the late gears of his vice-royalty in © anada, chic oily by the witchery of his tongue. No doubt Lord Dufferin’s taci is as perfect as his tem- per. Nature has endowed him with quick perception, and he will now be guided to results by a ripened jndgment ar Wa large knowledge of men and affairs. In Russia he will have much to observe well worth at- tention. Bevond the circle of Imperial and ministerial aut! hority, there are elements now in Russia which, peacefully or viclent- ly, must have an influence on. its policy.
