Sew Uniforms For M. E. Schoolgirls

OTTAWA tCPl-A new Unitar- ian Service Committee sewing project started last September has mushroorned into a large op- eration.

USC officials here said the committee first bought enough material to make 5.000 school uniforms for six-year-old refugee girls in the Middle East. An ap- peal was made to groups and in- dividuals across Canada to sew the pre-cut material.

Response to the appeal was so great the USC purchased an addi- tional l0.000.000 yards of light blue denim in November. and recently placed a third order for another 5,000 yards.

Although the original sewing objective was 5.000 uniforms. 15.- 000 now are expected to be com- pleled before the project ends.

Dr. Lotta l-fitschmauova. USC director. said the response to the sewing appeal was "Magnificent evidence of Canadian women's in- terest in a worthwhile work pm- ject."

Of all the previous USC special projects, "our current school uni- form project tops them all."
