Mr. James Hernia, of East River, and a boy named Owen, about fifteen years of age, son of widow Owen, of the sama place, are missing. Shortly after five o'clock last evening they visited the lumber yard of Mr. Patrick Hogan, where they purchased some lumber, and about six o'clock left a house in the neighborhood of the railway station for their home at East River. It is supposed that they wandered from the bushed track during the storm, and were drowned in ona of the numerous spring holes.

THE RIEL QUESTION. No Orange Influence Bxerted,

The House met at three o'clock.
Severals bills were initrodueed.
In answer to a question, Hon. Mr. Chap- leau said no petitions had been sent to the Government by Orange lodges, praying that the sentence passed upon Louis Riel for high treason be commuted.
Hon. Mr. Chapleau~also said that no copies of resolutions were sent to the Gov- ernment, passed by either the Grand Orange Lodge, the! District, County, or pri- vate Lodges to the same effect. The only documents of the sort that the Government received was one letter from a member of Parliament, transmitting a petition of one Orange Lodge, two petitions from the Northwest, and one private letter. The House then resumed the discussion ou Landry's censure motion, Sir Adolph Caron continuing his speech. Hoe disputed Riel’s claims to be considered a hero and a
martyr. Desjardines spoke after re- cess, and read articles from the Mail, attacking the French and
complained of their tone. He complained that Sir Hector Langevin had misled his supporters in Quebee into the belief thata constitutional agitation against Riel’s exe cution would result in good.
Mr. Landry, of Kent, said that Desjard- ines had, ina public meeting in Quebec, declared he would unmask the member for Kent for his statements in St. John, He had heard a great deal about the Riel ques- tion since that meeting, but all he had heard only strengthened his belief then expressed. His speech is one of the best yet delivered. He fairly surprised the House.

Found Drowned. Toronto, March 18. The ice left the Bay yesterdy, and this morning three bodies were found floating in the water. One was that of Miss Alex- ander, who mysteriously disappeared on Jan. 19th, and the other that of John Cochrane, who was last seen alive January 3rd. Drowning is attributed to accident.

S., and London, She is j}classed 100 Al at Lloyds, ard has been | built under special survey. She has a full }poop for the accommodation of Cap- tain and officers, a topga'lant fore- castle, and a deck house amidships for crew. galley, &c. She willbe rigged as a full rigged ship with all the modern im- provements. As the vessel left the ways she was christened the Eskasoni by Miss Mahon, danghter of Mr. F. C. Mahon, of Messrs. T. & E. Kenny’s London house. She is to be commanded by Capt. Charles M. Burchell, of Cape Breton, Canada, who has been for many years in the employ of the. owners, and under whose superintend- ence the ship has been built from the first. The Eskasoni is registered at Windsor, N. S., and is, we believe, the first iron ship registered at that port. As she rode at anchor after the launch, her general ap- pearance reflected great credit upon the builders, and all things appeared to augur well for her future. She will shortly be ready for sea.
