Mexico and its peo- ple are subjects which are by. no means so familiar to Canadians as they should be. and Mr. Filliters masterly and interesting exposition. served to dispel many false and dis-

iwrted impressions formed largely from the reading oi sensational ar- ticles in United States papers. In- deed these articles at times give one the impression that apart from their sensational distortion oi Mexican life and monitors, a sinister streak of propaganda. runs through them. .

Altitude llliS an important influence on the climate. Mexico City. being 7.500 feet above sea level. There are three zones depending on elevation, the Tierra Caliente or hot zone, the 'l‘ierra Templada or zone of model-- ate temperature. and the Teirra Fria, or "cool zone.

Because of the variety of climate offered all manner of crops may be grown. from corn, wheat. rye, barl- ey. apples and strawberries in thc uplands. to coffee, vanilla, sugar, cotton Indigo, rubber, tobacco and cocoa in the hot zone. The lumber ranges from rosewood and mahog- any to oak apd pine. As every one knows, theye is an abundance of sliver, also other minerals such as iron. coal. lead. quicksilver. copper. asphalt. bismuth, large quantitiesoi petroleum, and, sulphur from the crater of Mt. The journey from Vera Cruz to Mexico City is most interesting. The distance is 293 miles and it takes a day to make it by train.
