M.0.A-.ld. Sociaiftluh Holds Dance

A very successful dance was held by the M. C. A. M. Social Club on Saturday night. December 20th, in the new hangar lean-to. Music was supplied by Don Messrs' Is- landers.

A large crowd attended the function: Among these were Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Burke and Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Rayner who were the guests of honour. Unfortunately. another of the party. Miss Mary MacKenzie. was unable to attend. due to illness. .

The hall was very beautifully decorated for the occasion by the members who went all out to make the party a success. The program consisted of: novelty and spot dances; solos by Mrs. Austin squarebriggs iMarg. Osborne), and Charlie Chamberlain; also draw- ings were held for A Clfristmas cake and a Panda bear, donated by Mrs. Fred Ranahan and Mr. Duke Nellsen in aid of I Child- ren's Christmas party which is to be held in the near future.

Mr. Elmer MacNefl was present- ed the Sport Lodge Trophy for the most valuable player on the M. C. A. baseball team for 1952.

The president of the soclalclub, Mr. Harold Macxle. extended a special "thank you" to all who as- sisted, and for their marvellous turnout.

,S'side Man Admitted To Bar Yesterday

Lowell A. Allen of summerside. today begins his first day in the practise of law in Prince Edward Island.

This 20-year-old graduate of Dalhousle Law school was formal- ly admitted to the Bar of Prince Edward Island in Supreme Court yesterday afternoon at Summer- alde. The motion for his admis- sion was made by the Attorney General Walter E. Darby and so ordered by the presiding Judge. Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell.

Mr. Allen, in being admitted to the Bar of Prince Edward Island is permitted to practise law in this Province as an attorney and barrister in supreme Court and to act as a solicitor in the court of Chancery; He was also appoint- ed a commissioner for taking oaths in the Supreme Court of all three counties in Prince Edward Island. ,A son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen. postmaster, at Summerside, Lowell A. Allen is married to the former Ann MacRae, daughter oi Dr. and Mrs. D. R. Macrtae. Syd- ney Mines, and they have a daugh- ter. ago one year. He has one brother. Arthur, in the Canadian ahny and two sisters, Irene. Mrs. Victor Inman, in the United States, and Annabelle, Mrs. Stuart V'eale, Charlottetown.

During the Second World War he served on active duty with the Canadian army.

Mr. Allen will be sharing office space with Mr. W. Chester 8. MacDonald who was present at yesterday's ceremony and support- ed his admission to the Bar.

newest member of the legal pro- fession Chief Justice Campbell said it was a matter of gratifica- .tion that he had elected to re- Iturn to his native province. I He noted that in the last seven 101' eight years there had been a idecline in numbers in the legal profession in Prince County, and as a result, he said, there are eleven members as against seventeen in the latter days of his practise in Summerside. He observed that the increase in summerside population since that time should also provide a corresponding balance in the amount of legal work to be done.

Attorney General. Walter E. Darby. congratulated Mr. Allen and, welcomed him on behalf of the Bar of P.E.I. He gave him assur- ance that if he needed assistance at any time he should not hesitate to call on the older members of the Bar for their advice or as- sistance on any legal matter.

Mr. Chester S. MacDonald said that as one of the junior mem- 'bers of the Bar it was a pleasure for him to welcome Mr. Allen, with whom he had been associated through their years in high school and whom he had found to'pos- sess very high moral and academic qualifications.-S

'New London W.M.S. Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Aux- iliary of New London United Church W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs. Laslie Paynter on Thursday evening, December 4th.

The Christmas worship service in the Missionary Monthly was led by Mrs. Sterling MacKay. The first two verses of I-fymn No. 51 were sung and theithird verse was repeated in unison. Scripture sel- ections Luke 28-20, Matthew 2:1- l2. Luke 2: 25-32. and Philippians 2:5-11 were read by Mrs. J. M. Campbell, Mrs. Ray Maclbeod. Mn. C.B. Goes, and Mrs; Miller Camp- bell respectively The closing hymn was No. 68.

The dedicaiory prayer was of- fered by Mrs. Hugh Campbell.

The business period followed. The minutes were read and ap- proved, and roll call was answered by 14 members. The textword was "A Christmas Thought". The secretary reported 15 calls made, and seven cards and five boxes sent to sick and shut-ins.

There were six books read. It was decided to p- , ne sending boxes to Korea. until the first of the year. The minutes of the last annual meetln, were read by the secretary.

Correspondence consisted of I letter from Dr. Prnsar thanking the Auxiliary for a. box sent to Korea early in the fall. Two Injured In Collision

A head on collision about eight o'clock last night on the pavement at Montrose near Alberton, be- tween a 1930 model A Ford car and a late model Meteor resulted in two persons being rushed to the Western Hospital at Alberton suf- fering from severe cuts and abras- ions. Mr. John Finnan, Bloom- field, driver of the Ford car re- quired five stltches to close a. deep cut in his nose and also suf- fered eevere bruisu on the face. Mrs. Finnan, the only other pass- enger, was more seriously injured with multi-pie superficial abrasions and contusions, a. severed artery and internal bleeding.

Occupants of the Meteor were shaken up and bruised but did not require hospital treatment. They were. Fred Doucette, driver, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson J. Arsenault and Mr. Eric Christopher. all of Leo- ville, near Tignish. Cause of the accident could not be ascertained last evening.

The accident was investigated by the Alberton Detachment of the R.C.M.P.

Correspondence was read by the secretary, consisting of a letter of thanks from the matron of the Protestant Orphanage for s quilt received. The committees-had no reports.

It was moved and seconded that the school children be treated at Christmas, the old people in the district remembered with a box of fruit, and also that two fruit cakes would be made for shut-ins. It was also moved and seconded that a hamper of apples be donated to the Sanatorium and Protestant Orphanage.

A guessing contest was put on by Mrs. John A. MacKinnon, first prize won by Mrs. Bill Lamont. and a scrambled word contest was put on by Miss Joyce MacDonald, first prize won by Miss Wanda Buchanan.
