well. In desending the point of the | rod struck Dickey square on the top of the head and passed through it toward hisleft ear. The rod came out at the octipital bone and passed on down through the left Jung and below the last rib, protruding several inches. ‘The man did not consciousness, and stood without flinching the operation otf pull- ing the rod from his body. He lived long enough to give directions about his funeral. _—_—— nnn oe Extraordinary Case of Suspended Animation.

An extraordinary case of revival of vitality in a supposed dead person has just oceurred at Leeds, Eng. The per- son who has been the subject of this experience is a girl of 16, named Emma Whitehead, The girl had been suffer- ing from consumption for some time, and she gradually sank until about four o’closk on ‘Tuesday afternoon, when she appeared to breathe her last. No sign of life could be detected, and a person was called in to wash and lay out the body, which was done. Later the undertaker was sent for, and the measurements taken for the coffin, and other arrangements were made for the interment. Late the same night, whilst the mother and the nurse were in the kitchen, they were thrown into violent consternation by hearing a voice cry feebly, “Mother.” and summoning courage to ascend the stairs, they found the supposed dead girl standing in the door-way of her bed-room, dressed as she had been laid out. On seeing them she said, “Oh, mother, fetch me down, I feelso cold.” Without telling her what had happened, the woman per- suaded her to return to bed, and at once summoned Dr. Higgins, who applied restoratives to the fainfing girl.
