Mr. Bailey seems soon to have become tired of trying to satisfy fifty applicants with one Government Club.

Mr. John Merley’s refusal to give up the Irish secretaryship is an instance of self-abnegation and devotion to duty not often outshone in political life. Mr. Mor- ley’s service to his party and to the country, as well as his persona! ability, entitle him to the more distinguished posi tion which he has declined. In the Irish secretaryship there is much worry and | little glory to be won, and Mr. Morley’s own achievements at Dublin castle have been very disappointing. Bicyc.e Tuieves.—Mr. Benjamin E. Dakin, the bicycle detective of this city, has again captured the $50 reward offered by the Pope Manufacturing Company of Boston, Mass., for the return to the owner of any stolen Columbia bicycle and for the arrest and conviction of the thief. He recovered and returned to owners July 3, 1893, and Jan. 12, 1894, two Columbia safeties, and had the thief in the first case sentenced to thirty days aud in the second to one hundred and eighty days in jail. Upon proofs of the above returns and con- victions he was presented by the District Cycle Company of this city, as the repr - sentative of the Pope Manufacturing Com- pany,a check for $50 in each case.— Washington Star.
