THE NEW STEAMER

Orrawa, June 18.

A contract has been entered into with Elder & Co., of Glasgow, for the construc- tion of a steel steamer to replace the Northern Light. The specifications require that she shall be 200 tons burden, built of Stemens Martin steel throughout, fitted with triple expansion engine and capable of a speed cf 15 knots an hour. She will be built on the Swedish iceboat model and | completed by Nov. Ist.

Another Disastrous Fire.

Guilty of Perjury.

MonrreaL, June 18.

_The judgment against Downie, a lawyer of this city, found guilty of perjury, has been sustained by the Supreme Court. Downie failed to appear for sentence this morning, and is supposed to have left the country. His bail, $1,200, was estreated, and a bench warrant for him issued.
