Mines Minister Visits C. Breton
NEW GLASGOW I'CP) -— Mines Minister Comtois headed for Cape Breton Tuesday night after a tour of Dominion Steel and Coal Com— pany plants at nearby Trenton.
He saw a couple of Dosco con tinuous miners being overhauled and watched workers roll out the first of 150 coal cars being pro- duced by the plant for use in Cape Breton mines.
Mr. Comtois declined comment on the coal situation. He said he was here “to become familiar with the operations so when peo— ple talk about mining in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia I will understand what they are talking about."

MRS. E. A. McMAI-ION
The death occurred on Thurs- day. July 3lst. 1958. of Mrs. Elizabeth A. McMahon in her eighty-ninth year at the home of her son Charles J. McMahon of Elmira.
Although Mrs. McMahon had been in ill health for the past three years, her death came as a shock to her family and friends.
The late Mrs. McMahon Inee Elizabeth Ann Campbell) was married in 1895 to Thomas Mc- Mahon and lived at Campbell’s Cove until 1954 when She moved to Elmira.
Mrs. McMahon was a devout member of St. Columba’s Parish and during her illness was often visited by her pastor, Rev. W. D. MacDonald and the reception of her Divine Lord in Holy Com- munion gave her untold consola- tion and strength to bear with Christian fortitude and unwav— ering faith the burden of her illness.
As one of the oldest members
of East Point Parish, Mrs. Mc— Mahon will be greatly missed by her host of friends and acquaint- ances. She was ever willing and happy to render assistance to those in need and her presence in a sick room brought comfort to the sick. Her home was al- ways one, ln which a most hearty welcome was extended to all, who had the pleasure of knowing her and enjoying her kind hospitality and pleasing manner. I Her husband predeceased her in 1925. Her only surviving sis- ter Mrs. Teresa Deveney lives at Nahant, Mass. Besides her sister she leaves to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving mother Mary Jane IMrs. Char- les Mcanhern), Charles Henry and Joseph and a number of grandchildren.
Her largely attended funeral on Saturday, August 2nd. and the great number of people, who came to pay their last tributes of respect, showed the high esteem in which she was held.
Requiem High Mass was cele- brated by Rev. W. D. MacDon- ald, who also officiated at the grave.
The pall bearers were: How- ard Campbell, Pius Campbell, Charles Campbell, William F. Pierce, Joseph Harris and John Holland.

The death of Edward (Ebba) A, Praught occurred at his home following a prolonged illness.
He was born in Richmond on July 11, 1880. son of the late Peter Praugliat and Mary Jane Mac- Kinnon.
For a number of years he op- erated the United Farmers Co- operative store of Richmond and. Grand River until the dissolution of the cooperative around 1929. At the same time and up to his death he farmed in Richmond.
He was a life Ion-g member of the Immaculate Conception Par- ish of Wellington of which he was a trutee for a period. He was an active member of the Holy Name Society and took a keen interest in the activities of the Parish, sports programs and in particular baseball in which he participated and of which he was an interested follower.
He is survived by his wife Cecilia, seven sons and four daughters, Austin and Bernard of New York, Oamillus of Washing— ton, Benjamiii at home. John B. of Ottawa, Wilfred and Gabriel of Toronto. Mrs. Tom Kelley I Adelaide) Mrs. Bill Glavin I Mary) and Edna of Boston and Mrs. Will Gillis (Doria) of Grand River. In addition he leaves six sisters Mrs. Fred Miller (Julia) Mrs. Joe Edwards (Marjorie) Mrs. Louis Van Koert (Catherine) Mrs. Jim Phelian (Cell) and Daria of Boston and Mrs. James Miac- Donald (Annie) of Grand River and one brother. Wilfred of Boston Mass, 3 number of grand— children and great grand child- Den.
The largely attended funeral was held from his late residence on Tuesday to Immaculate Con— ception Church. Wellington where a solemn high funeral Mass was chanted by the Pastor Reverend Leonard MacDonald; assisted by Rev. Pius Murnaighan as Deacon, Rev. Urban Gilli's as Sub-Deacon and Rev. Justin MacDonald in the Sanctuary. Interment followed in the parish cemetery with services conducted by Father MacDonald assisted by Father Gillis and Murnaghan. The Pall-bearers were sons and son-s-in-laIw of the deceased. John B., Wilfred and Gabriel Praughi, Tom Kelley, Will Gil‘lis and John Ri‘tter.

Kitchener was suggested Monday night as a means of lowering the city tax rate and easing the tax burden on property owners.
E.‘ N. Morton, city assessment commissioner, told city council’s legislation committee he esti- mated $2,500,000 could be raised yearly by the method, cutting the tax rate by 15 mills.
He said a sales tax method of raising money is used success— fully by various municipalities in Quebec and some parts of the United States. I
