Last nigat the Crown authorities arrest- ed four prominent liquor dealers for being implicated in the smuggling scandals, among {the four being Michael Tobin, the | senior Whiteway member of the Assembly for the Placentia district, one of the Gov- ernors of the Savings Bank, and a leading legis'ator. Twenty-three more arrests have been arranged to take place to-day. The wildest excitement prevails. It is report- ed that some warrants are for men in very high places in business and public life.
