Close Competition Island League's Success Formula

At the beginning of the hockey season when the idea of an Island- wide hockey league was only just that. an idea, many of our fans ex- pressed misgivings. In fact many came right out and said that it just wouldn't work. That after watching the Islanders in action for the past few years Island fans and Charlottetown hockey fans in particular just wouldn't be interest- ed in paying to watch a league com posed of local players in action.

Time however has proved them wrong and as Montague and the Saints get ready to play the final league game tonight at the Arena we can look back at a successful it at times somewhat confusing season of play and can look for- ward to a successful playoff be-I ginning on Thursday. I

league we wouldn't be surprised In the least if anywhere from 1,200 to 1,500 fans turn up for Thursday's playoff clash.

As the race is not always to the swiftest so also the crowds are not always willing to watch the class test, if the classiest are In is class by themselvc and make I run- away of a hockey league or any other league for that matter.
