Dear Editor.

When the Chinese students approached the Student Union to ask for assistance with their soccer tournament, it was explained to them that the Chinese Society is not an organization to which all students on campus can belong, therefore, it Was suggested that they hold a Pig 'N Whistle in the Student Union Lounge to

-raise the necessary funds.

At the time this was quite agreeable to the Chinese students. They held their Pig 'N Whistle, which was quite successful and raised their money. The Student Union also authorized a loan for them.

. In the future, anyone writing "articles of this nature should get all the facts.

Dear Editor,

I think too much emphas- is is being placed on APATHY at;UIPIEOIO I

I think people tend to w _ act as they think other people expect them to and at U.P.E.I.

it seems to be an accepted fact that the majortity will be apathic. Therefore, there is no challenge to be other— wise. We have already been labeled as "apathy"and we Just tend to sit still and allow the label to stick.

But,;I truly believe that if the positive side of good sportsmanship were emphasized rather than the negative 'apathetic" side, a lot more would start to show an active interest in University affairs...

As a start,I think our extra-curricular activities

should be made as enticing as possible and kept that wayobe- yondtheir first meeting.So of- ten, a club or an organization promises a lot at its first meeting only to leave its goals- unfilled and its members with a sense of dissatisfaction and a feeling of having wasted their

-time in anyorganization which

was "all talk and no action”.

The next thing needed is a strong leader who is capable of passing along the feeling of in- terest and self-achievement to .all members and at the same time be ready to always welcome new members. w

Of course this is only my opinion. It would'have to be put to the test to prove me right or wrong.

Editors Note: I don't know where to start in answer— ing your letter. The reas- on why we emphasized apat- hy in our first issue was because it Was the "talked about" thing on campus. We tried to give the facts & show alternatives (re. fac- ilitators, The Cadre, Vol. 3 No. l Page 3). Also we tried to point out that the. student body on this campus has by-passed being apathe- tic this year and are just plain pathetic.

As for anyone around here wanting to participate in something worth while, there are a few , who have a good time. The rest of the people around here rea- lly couldn't give a shit ;one way or the other about >how or who runs this univ— ersity

If people want better extra-curricular activities they are going to have to work to get them. Anything is possible but most stud- ents don't really have the brains to realize they are missing something. I some- times wonder how half the people around here got here in the first place.

As for putting your idea of more participation to the test, come on in to The Cadre office and we'll
