Home For Interment.—The body of Miss Sadie McKay, of Charlottetown, who died at New Orleans some time ago, was brought from Boston in the steamer Wor- cester, which arrived on Saturday evening, and interred in St, Peter's graveyard yesterday.

Honust Anout It —Mr. J. McC. Snow, general insurance agent at Moncton, a few days ago received the following letter from a Frenchman at Cocagne: ‘* Mister Snow —I write to let you know I burnt my house last week. I have herinsured. Come up and pay me my money.”

Wortny or Spectat Mention. — Among the many interesting and curious articles exhibited in the ladies’ department of the Exhibition was a cotton quilt, containing 2,470 pieces, made by the widow of the late Mr. Swan, who was for many years watchman at the Ch’town Railroad Station. Mrs. Swan is in her 78th year.

AcaInst tHe Rattway.—A Fall River, Mass., despatch states that the case of Wm, Miller vs. the Old Colony Railroad was con. cluded on Wednesday. Miller, it will be re. membered, got off a train at Riverside, on the opposite side from the depot, and was struck by atrain coming in the opposite direction, He lost a leg at the knee and claimed $20,000 damages on the score of negligence on the part of the road. The jury ae ina sealed verdict in favor of the plaintiff.

Hetp FOR MANSLAUGHTER. — A despatch from Digby says a sensation was caused there on Wednesday by the announcement by Judge Meagher that he had been instructed to inves- tigate the recent poisoning of Crozier by a

mistake of R. F. Stark, in putting up a pre- scription, using strychnine fostead of a drug. If it was proved that there ‘was carelessness, Stark would be held for manslaughter. It was so decided, and Stark is so held. Great sym- pathy is a for the unfortunate druggist in the peculiar position in which he is placed.

A PECULIAR, Case.—A somewhat peculiar case is now before the court of appeal in Mon- treal. A few yearsago a Mra. Browne sued her son-in-law for support, claiming that she was in want, that her husband was intemper- ate and was unable to suppot her, and that her son-in-law had sufficient means to render her aesistance. Judgment was given in her | favor, and the defendant was ordered to pay | seven dollara a week for his mother-in-law’s support —‘‘as oda iadaiiens daughter-in-law are subject to the same obligations as chil- dren.” From this judgment appeal is made solely on the aun that the evidence did hot support the ju the mother-in-law will win.

News from Halifax.

Hatirax, Oct. 4.

Ex county detective Phelan was arrested on Saturday night by his successor in ottice, Constable Burbridge, on a warrant charging him with retaining for his own purposes $16, which he had collected for parties in Amherst.

Charles Hill, ayoung lad of 12 years, while attempting to board a local train at Trenton Saturday evening missed his foot- ing and was crushed under the wheels. One of his legs was completely severed at the ankle, the other foot was mangled and his head was also badly cut. He is not expect- ed to recover.

A man named Frank Armstrong was run over on Saturday evening by the Wind- sor and Annapolis express train, about a mile west of Windsor Junction. The man appears to have been lying on the track with his feet toward the on coming train. The fire-box of the engine apparently caught one foot and threw it over the rail, where it was crushed off by the wheel of the locomotive.

The othor leg was doubled upover the body, the trunk pushed along the track by the fire- box for some fifty yards, the head torn off and rolled into the gutter, and the heart, lungs, etc., crushed out through the neck. Near the limb which was first amputated, and where the unfortunate fellow was first struck was found a bottle partially full of rum. ‘The re- mains were gathered up and brought to the city to-day. An inquest was held by Coroner Hawkins.
