Following the hearing of evid- ence of the six witnesses. Magis- trate Martin adjourned the case until this morning.

Three other cases also appear- ed on the docket. A person charg- ed with being drunk and incap- able was fined S10 and costs or five days in jail. while another person appearing on a similar charge was sentenced to 10 days in Jail. The case of a man charged with being drunk and disorderly was adjourned until November 2!.

POWER LINE DAMAGED -A half ton truck vient out of control and smashed down an electric pole and transformer. causing a tem- porary power failure on Long worth Avenue at 7.30 p.m. yester- day. The truck was badly damag- ed. and it was several hours be- fore power was restored to the affected area.

The traditional love of music. songs and laughter found expres- sion last evening when several hundred persons of all ages faced the inclement weather to hear the Irish Minstrels of '56 in a gala performance In! the rloly Rede- emer Communlty Centre.

Presented by the Benevolent Irish Society and directed by Hugh P. Tralnor with Albert Blanchard as accompanist. the performers were introduced for their numbers by J. Pius Calla- ghan. C.D.A.. who has had many years of success as an interlocu- tor and master of ceremonies.

In his choice of performers Mr. Tralnor showed a remarkable in- sight in arranging a well-balanced program designed to meet the wishes of a critical audience. where Irish songs are concerned.

Following the opening choruses by the ensemble. Joseph Thistle sang "An Irish Welcome"and three charming young ladies each turn sang most ac , "y Elizabeth Morris gave the first number in "Peggy O'Neil" fol- lowed by Myrna Nicholson in "Mickey" and Fern Herman in "River Shannon Moon".

An end song by David Morris entitled "An Irish Parody" brought him before the footllghts for the first time and won generous ap- plause while Buddy Leclalr. bil- led as ”Charlottetown's Presley". made a double encore hit with Roclt'n Roll fans.

This was followed by Earl Hennessey in "An lrlshmanis Dream" Neils Hansen in impersonations provid- ed and excellent diversion and marked his as a splendid perform- er in this field.

Malda Rogerson and Chester Donovan sang in dust that ever popular number "Danny Boy". Both singers have consistently pleased audiences here since ap- pearlng before the footllghts a few years ago. Evelyn Fraser in her Irish dance won well merited applause and as a closing num- ber previous to the grand finale by the entire ensemble. Frank Flood brought the individual num bers to a close with a pleasing vocal solo.

MUSIC FESTIVAL AND MUSICIANS

The provision of records to help rural school chairs that have not the services of a skilled music teacher, is a new venture this year by the executive of the Prince Edward Island Music Fest- ival. The records are being made of the test pieces that the choirs will sing in the Festival competit- ion.

The idea is that the teacher. or

some other person in the district. can act as director of the chorus with the assistance of the records. The records are made by trained choirs under the direction of skill- ed and experienced teachers of music. The records are being made available to schools requesting them. In this way the Festival execut- ive hope that more rural schools will be able to participate this year than has been the case in the past. Letters have been mailed to all of the one-room school! in the province explaining the pro- gram of the record committee.

It has been decided by the Fest- Ival executive that a special class will be provided for school choirs trained by the use of records. In this way they will not be compet- fng against choirs trained by pro- fessional teachers of music.
