Men's Basketball Update

It's not every day that you get to watch the men's basketball team pound their opponents, but it's begin- ning to happen every weekend.

I enjoy watching the men's basketball team play, and I think that the large number of fans who have been showing up to their games for the past couple of weeks would agree with me. It's fun to watch Tyler Wood drib- ble by not 1, not 2, but 3 opponents. It's fun to watch Jason Aucoin elbow opponents in the head and get away with it. It's fun to watch Kenny Duncan, Sherone Edwards and Doug McKinney slam the ball like it's nobody's business, though they do miss sometimes, which can be that good for coach Connolly's stress level. Nevertheless, it's still great to watch.

Although the men's basketball team is still fighting for a playoff spot, they are only 4 points out of first in the Nelson Division. And once they make it into the playoffs all bets should be taken off the table, if they're against the Panthers. UPEI has earned at least one win against every team this year, except for Memorial (who they haven't played yet) and St. FX. (who they will

play at home Friday February 21). The Panthers should be happy with their success to date. They are playing great basketball, and their final four games should allow them to move up in the standings before the season's end, which will help them when the play- offs start.

Players of the Week

Tara Sullivan: Female

The female player of week eighteen of the sports season is Tara Sullivan. Tara had two solid performances over the past weekend against Acadia and Dalhousie. Sullivan played a strong two- way game as she averaged six kills and one block over the two games. Tara is a graduate from Kensington Intermediate High School, and is currently in her second year of the Arts program.

Kenny Duncan: Male

The male player of week eighteen

Kenny was the deciding factor in UPEI's victory over Dalhousie (75-65) in Sunday's hoop action. Kenny scored 28 points for the panthers, and gathered 6 rebounds. The win gives the panthers a much needed two points as the playoffs are fast approaching. Kenny graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High (Guelph, Ont.), and is cur- rently in his fourth year of the Arts pro- gram. In his spare time Kenny enjoys lis- tening to music and making Kraft Dinner. It's gotta be K.D.
