| Mr. Johu A. Cameron was appointed chairman, and conducted the proceedings impartially. Mr. Arch’d Ourrie acied as secretary.

Mr. A. ©. Macdonald opened the debate and scored many good points against the opposition; and his appeal to the elector for support for himself and Mr. John McLean was heartily responded to by those pre- sent.

Dr. Mcintyre next took the platform, and asserted that men should only be loyal to their country so long as it was loyal to them. He blamed Sir John for interfering With the trade negotiatiuns between New- foundland and the Uuired States. He said | ‘that the American Senate and House of | Representatives would be in aceurd in 1892, | ‘and that the Liberal party would then be ‘able to get reciprocity with that country— ‘if they were successful at the present elec tien.
