IRELAND.

The news from Ireland is unimportant. The presence of an immense military force prevents any attempt 4° insubordination. Mr. Martin, of the Felon newspaper, who was convicted of publishing felonious articles in his paper—was sentenced on the 19th August to transpor- tation for ten years.—Mr. O’Dougherty, editor of the Tibune newspaper, was tried a second time for the same offence as that for which Mr. Martin is punished ; but the Jury, as on his former trial, could not agree, and they were discharged. A vast number of persons were irrested on suspicion, but little or no importance appears to be attached to those arrests.

Mors Exrermination.—The Limerick and Clare Examiner of Saturday reports several cases of eviction and house-levelling at Moreland, near Limerick, on the property of Mr. Arthur, of Glenomers, who, or whose agent, seems to have acted with great harshness. It i3 said that several of the tenants not only tendered the amount due, but offered security for the next half year’s rent. The same paper says, ‘In the west of Clare, ex- termination still proceeds, in that very union of Kilrush in which the Minister was officially informed one thou- sand houses were demolished. The levellers were at work the whole of last week on lands at Carrigabolt, and hundreds of ejectments are still to be executed.’

Departure or tae Stare Prisoners.-—-Thirteen of the persons in custody for politicgl offences, includ- ing Patrick O’Higgins, Mr. 8. J. Meany, and J. Taaffe barrister, arrived at Kingstown‘on Friday morning, by the seven o’clock train, and were put on board a go- vernment steamer,which steamed at once from the jetty bearing towards the north. It is supposed their destin- ation is either Carrickfergus, county Antrim, or Fort- George, Scotland. The prisoners were escorted to Kingstown by a large body of the metropolitan police. There was not the slightest excitement, nor was there apparently any sympathy for the patriots.

The number of mendicants in Paris, at present, is esti mated at 9000.

forward and pay the debt for him! However, let the triends of order and justice not be led astray by these tricks. Ve can assure them that Mr. Reddie will never returnas Chief Justice to St. Lucia. Indeed, there is so little chance of his being reinstated, that in another part of his letter (not intended for general per- usal like the rest of the story,) he says, ‘I can count so little upon the committee of the Privy Council, that I have entered a fresh appeal to the Queen against the irregularity of the order for my suspension, and, as a dermer ressort, if all fails, we shall have the inatter brought before Parliament. Brougham intends to try what may be done by bullying the House.” Now we have our doubts as to whether Lord Brougham would consent to make such a fool of himself: but ifhe does, he will find Lord Stanley and Lord Lincoln pre- pared to meet him on behalf of Colonel Torrens. ‘I'he Iron Duke, too, who had abstained from interfering al] along, has-now taken up the affair: and Lord Broug- ham little suspects what a lesson he may catch from his ‘illustrious friend’ the. modern.
