Tue pedestrian contest at Madison Square, New York, resulted in a victory for Rowell, “The little Englishman.” At the end of the contest he scored 530 "miles; Merritt, 515; Hazael, 500; Hart;452; Guyon, 471; Weston, 455; Ennis, 450; Krohne, 450; Taylor, 250. Weston challenged Rowell at the close of the contest. Merritt will go to England to en- gage in the next match.

Tue Lare Prince Imperrat.—Mr. Barry, appointed by the French-Canadian young men to present the weath of immortelles destined for the tomb of the iate Prince Imperial, has performed his task. He was graciously re- ceived by the Empress Eugenie, who declared it was the handsomest of the many that had been’presented. It was immediately placed ia the mortuary chapel. Mr. Barry was the only gentleman received since the Prince’s de.t, with the exception of the Captain of the ‘““Orontes,” who brought the body home.

AS WILL BE sEeBN by advertisement in another column, Messrs. Bruce & McKenzie have purchased the tailoring department and stock of Mr. Geo. E. Full. These gentlemen intend prosecuting tie tailoring in Mr. Full’s old stand, where they have on hand a first- class stock of gents’ wearing apparel, and cloths and tweeds of various descriptions. Messrs. Bruce & MciXenzie are courteous and attentive young men, besides good craftsmen, and they will, no doubt, receive a good share of patronage. We wish them every success.
