Woodpeckers VS Ce.er Sldlnj

HELP!!! I know this sounds like the start of an old story (especially since we both have cedar siding and are visit- ed by hairy woodpeckers) but I really do have this friend I'm asking for. No, really. Anyway, it seems that some _ hairy woodpeckers have taken to bashing away at the siding on a home in Mount Vernon. Since there is feed, including suet balls and fat logs, and lots of trees, we can only guess that they are going after flies that have taken up residence underneath the siding. They are doing quite a bit of damage and sound rather fearless. Have any readers had this kind of experience, or have any suggestions as to how to stop it? APRIL 15: Closing date for those wishing to enter slides in the NHS annual slide competition at the May meeting. Entries can be mailed or delivered to Margaret Mallett, 53 Fitzroy St., Charlottetown, ClA 1R4. Don't be late!

MAY 5: This is usually the best attended meeting of the Natural History Society - its the annual slide show and we're always treated to a wide variety of high—quality photography. It starts at 8 p.m. and is held at the Farm Centre.

May 28: The Island Nature Trust will hold a public meeting at 7:30 at the Farm Centre. The speaker will be Dr. Rick Cawthorn on "wildlife Veterinary Science".
