“Water glass,” known chemically as silicate of soda, i+ fluid quoted at 60: per gelloo. It is bighly caustic, due to excees of soda, and consequently is more disagree- alle to use thar lim-s-water.

The lime-water may be made by putting 3 pounds of good fresh lime in 5 gallons of water, stirring well! at intervals, tor a few hours and then allowed tu setile The clear superoaiure fluid can then be poured over the eggs, which have been pre- viously placed in a crock or water-tight barrel. Sorse authorities recommend the additien of a pound or so ot ealt tothe lime- water, bui the writers areof the opinion that this is unnecessary, aod probab'y leads to the imparting of a limes flavor to the eggs by inducing an iaterchaoge of the fluids within and without the egg.

The all essential points to be remembered are: (1) tbat the eggs to be preserved shal! be perfectly fresh, and, (2) that they shal! be covered with the preservative fluid.
