Inu recent years he has taken a great ins- trest in the development of the mineral wealth of Newfoundland, and was most successful in the department of copper miniag. With the new aparatus, how- ever, there is.myu need to grope in the dark, and troubles of the ear, nose,throat and ether organs can be so illumined that the operator can clearly see the Tainumate parts. . The adaptabiluy of the electric light that is of the ineandescent order is so apparant that it is a matterr of surprise that amanof medicine wes not the diseoveror of its valuable propreties. The instrument when used upon the human body may be inserted in various ways, It contains ai one end in adjective which forms on image of the portexamined. It permits of the il‘umiaation of the walls of the stomach and ibe consequent examination of the same by the aid of lense. The light is very clear,said to be in no way injurious and shows the parts in their proper colors.

Serious Result from a Hen Peck.

About two months ago, Mrs, Joho Preston of Gwynedd, Pa., was pecked by a Len on the index finger of her righthand. The blow did net break the skin, but cansed a very slight bruise. Nothing was thought of so trifling a wound until a few days after it was in- flicted, when the finger began to pain and swell. The pain inereused until it became ulmost unbearable, end the pain did not cease until it had extended up the arm to the shoulder, whea the fingure burst from the knuckle joint to the tip, and began to discharge + purulent substance. Although the patiest had been under constant treat- ment by askilfal and successful physi- cian from the start, the sore shows but little evidence of healing, and renders her almost powerless to do anything.
