And when that came, and there was once more the sound f feet in the yard, I drew up stiff and stark, being solicitous for the hazard. “Twas Blake as came to relieve me, but, as fortune had it, his head was mazed with sleep and drink, and he paid me little attention. I growled out an oath or two, to which he gave no answer, his teeth chattering in his jaws; and with that I left him, and rounding the corner I made straight for the entry. When I got in, there was Ned lying in a heap upon some straw, snoring like a swine, and Creech, as I perceived, seated with his back against the wall and his eyes lifted meditatively to the rafters.

D. 1896, is hereby specified and fixed at the rateof one-eighth of one per cent on every dollar of the value of Real Es- tate as assessed by the Assessors of the said City of Chariottetown in the general Assess ment Book and Valuation Roll of all Real Es tate and Persona! Property liable to taxation in said City, and all persons liable to pay Po!l Tax therein made and duly returned by them en the eleventh day of April A. D. 1896. 2nd. The rate of Assessment on Personal Property for such Water Works Fund for the year commencing the firet day of January A D 1596, and ending the thirty-first day of December, A. D, 1896, is hereby specified and fixed at t: e rate of one-eighth of one per cent onevery dollar of the value of Persona! Proper- ty as assessed by the Assessors of the said City in the said General Assessment Book and Va- luation Roll, made and duly returned by them as aforesaid. 3rd "he amount of Poll Tax to be paid by every person returned by the said Assessors in said General Assessment Book and Valu ation Rol! as liable thereto for such Water works Fund under said Statute, for the year commencing the first day ot January, A. Beit enacted by the City Council of the City of Charlottetown as foilows :—

Ist That upon the refusal or neglect of any Owcer or occupier of apy house, warehouse, cellar, yard, field or other place in the said City to remove any dirt, manure, animal or vegitable substance, stagnant water, filth or reiuse matte! ol any kin? off and from such premises, after receiving 48 hours notice from the Sanitary Officer to remove the same, it shall be the duty of the Sanitary Omeer, and he is hereby authorized and required to cause the same to be removed at the expense of the owner or occupier so notified as aforesaid.
