reserved (i.e. for Biology vans and handi- cap). I don’t think these spaces are enough, even if they were specifically allocated for residence use only.

The main argument I have to justify residence parking is the fact that for eight months of the year UPEI is my home. In apartment complexes and houses, one has a drive way to park a car. Other than property taxes (which has to be paid on all land), people do not have to pay to park in their driveway. I don’t think it is completely unreasonable to ask for a drive way. Per- sonally, I (as would other residence stu- dents) would not mind paying the parking fee in exchange for some designated spaces. The spaces, say 15, would be on a first come first serve basis for residence students. It would also be preferable that the spaces were in proximity to the residences. Imag- ine the distance from the lower Blanchard parking lot to Bernardine as the walk from your drive way to your house.

Another issue that I would like to address, is parking for residence guests. I decided at the urging of friends to talk to security. Cst. Weale told me that on weekends parking permits are not monitored as closely for precisely this reason. There- fore, visitors are not required to have permits, and don’t receive fines unless they are parked illegally. It is comforting to know that my parents, should they come to visit, would not be towed from my drive way.
