P., for St. Boniface, will be taken into the Greenway Cahinet as Minis‘er of Ejucation, a new portifolo about to be created. Further Mr, Pren- degrast wi'l soon return from Qitawa, and will bring with him anew settlement of the achool question, which will be more sati-factory to Archbishop Langevin. Mr. Prendergrast, it is said, will again contest S’. Boniface, and will have the support of the Archbishop. A few days before going East Mr. Prendergat, Mr. Green- way and Father Rchot bad an all-night sersion, at which a comolete agreement was arrived at. Mr. Prendergast, it is said, ie pledged to Mgr. Langevin to carry out the new agreement. The Sar cor- respondent’s authority for this statement is of such a character as fo give the story authenticity. A fire broke out in the westerv block of the Federal Parliament Buildings yester ee and the worst fire which the capital has had for many along day enBved, and as a result the taxpayers of the Dominion will eventually nave to meet # bili for a quarter of a million of dollars. The only portion of the building which bas escaped, with the exception of some dam- age by water in the offices, is the Macken- zie wing from the big tower northerly. iv this portion of the building are the Departments of Railways and Canals and Toland Revenue. The. rooms burnt out iwtre those occupied by the engineering aud architect’s staff, public works depart- “mevt, includiig bun treds of. valuable plans and records, certain offices occupied by come of the clerks of the marine and fi-~herics department, and the entire effects of the mounted police department.
