UPEI Student wins award at AUPC 93

Xavier University, from Feb. 12 to 14. The annual conference is organized by APICS, the Atlantic Provinces Council on the Sciences. About 90 physicsstudents and professors from nine universities in the Maritime provinces and Newfoundland attended, as well as one student visiting from the University of Ottawa. The delegates heard lectures by several prominent physicists, and 22 student presentations were given.

Students giving talks at the conference rep- resent UPEI, Dalhousie, St. Mary’s, St. FX, Mount Allison, Memorial, and Ottawa. This year, two UPEI students made presentations: Edward Lank, a third year Honours physics major from Ebenezer, spoke on ‘*Computer Data Acquisition’’, and Lynn Macdonald, a fourth year Honours physics student from West Point, gave a talk entitled ‘‘The Electronic Bouncing Ball: an Experiment in Chaos’’. A panel of faculty members from Atlantic universities judged the student talks on both presentation and content. Mr. Lank was given the award for the best student talk. This is the first time that this award has been won by UPEI. Awards for the second and third best talks went to St. FX students. @
