The Hockey Panthers came out of the weekend only two points down of the Moncton Blue Eagles, with a game in hand. The big confrontation will take place this Sunday in Moncton.

Against UNB there were marked improvements, namely goaltending. Rob Brown has been steadily improving since taking over the starting job and the Panthers are going to need a netminder with a head on his shoulders to make it down the stretch. Rob and Trent henr yboth fit this mould.

UPEI was never really pres- sed and basically out-talented the Red Devils last weekend. Scores were 6-4 on Saturday and 6-3 on Sunday. The Puck Panthers host Mt. Allison on Friday night at the Forum before heading to Moncton on Sunday for a 2:00pm start.

Back from USA

The men’s basketball team ventured into the U.S.A. for the third time this year. Team captain Mike Morgan stayed home due to minor nagging injuries but should be back in action this weekend.

The Panthers visited the University of Maine at Machias for games on Sat. and Sunday. Saturday’s game saw the Panthers lose 76 - 62. Sun- day, our beloved Canadians put forth a better effort but it was also a losing cause, 55-50.

Rumor has it that some Mor- rison guy (and it wasn’t Scotty) got kicked out of Sunday’s game. I just can’t believe it, can you?

The Panthers play host to UNB on Friday and Saturday. The Redmen boast two of the top perimeter players in the conference in Bob Aucoin and Andy Hayward. With thelikes of Morgan, Peter Gordon, Steve Ruiz, and the ominous Alumni Gym present, the Panthers shouldn’t have too many prob-

Lady Panthers at UNB

The Lady Panthers basket- ball team took their undefeated record into Frederiction to take on the perennial power UNB. The girls gave it a fine effort but unfortunately lost in over- time, 65-61. Ria Bahadursingh led the Panthers with 19 pts., and Tracey MacKachern had 10. The score at the half was 41-37 for UNB and tied at 57 at the end of the regulation time. The ladies still retain first place and are looking good for the playoffs.

Next action for the Lady P’s is not until Jan.31 at home against Acadia.

Volleyball Panthers

The volleyball Panthers split with Memorial university of Newfoundland this past week- end. On saturday it went down to the last game. Unfortunate- ly, our ladies lost the game 15- 13 and the match 3-2. The next day was a different story as

the Lady P’s spiked their way to a 3-1 win. The team’s next action is on Jan.31 when the powerhouse Dal Tigers visit the Alumni Gymnasium.
